Vises
The fly tying vise is the fly tyer's most important tool together with a high-quality bobbin. The function of the fly tying vise is to hold the hook firmly in place during tying. The jaws of the vise have different locking mechanisms, from quick lever locking to nut tightening. The tying vise is attached to the edge of the table with c-clamp or placed on top of the table using a pedestal base.
Most vises have a rotation function. Some vises have "true inline rotary" feature that allows the hook to be rotated around its own axis, so that the shank of the hook does not swing eccentrically when rotating the jaws. This makes it easier to attach the materials by rotating the jaws. However, the feature is not mandatory in all fly tying and it is largely a matter of taste which type of vise is best for your use. From our selection, we especially recommend Stonfo's high-quality fly tying vises made in Italy. A popular vise is also Danica Danvise, which offers a good value for beginners and even more experienced tyers.
