MA Kursk Original Head Set by Markku Autio is designed for tying fast sinking Kursk flies which are popular for fishing salmon. The package includes five tungsten coneheads and tubes which are all interchangeable. Available head weights are 1 and 2 grams and tube diameter on both options is 3 mm.
These heads vary from basic coneheads in a way how the hole for leader is positioned. On these heads, the head is positioned on the head which creates nice balanced swim for the fly when it's fished with dead drift. Dead drift is proved to be extremely efficient for salmon fishing in many cases. Just fish the Kursk with czech nymphing method or other nymph fishing techniques and you will be pleasently surprised with the outcome.
In addition to fly fishing, you can also use Kursk flies with conventional UL gear or even ice fishing.
How to use MA Kursk Heads:
- Tie the fly on the tubefly tube which is included in the package. Leave about 5 mm of free space next to fly's head.
- Insert the finished fly inside the MA Kursk head. Do not use glue for attaching.
- Pierce the plastic tube through the top hole of the Kursk head for the leader. Tip: Use hot needle for this and the hole will have smoother edges.
- Insert your leader through the Kursk Head and plastic tube. Knot the hook. You can leave the hook hanging free, use hook keeper or insert the hook eye inside the tube. Suitable treble hooks are for example Ken Sawada ST3 and ST4 in sizes #6 and #8. If you are fishing rocky river bottoms, we recommend using the hook keeper and installing the single tube fly hook upside down to prevent snagging the bottom.
